How to configure Exchange ActiveSync on a Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC device Exchange ActiveSync allows PDAs to synchronize data with Exchange mailboxes. Synchronizing email, calendar, and Contacts requires a PDA that can connect to the Internet. This connection can be directly from the device using WiFi or a cellular network. Note that traditional connections to a network-connected computer using the cradle, USB, infrared, or Bluetooth synchronize via the desktop ActiveSync client. Exchange ActiveSync is an additional server-based synchronization agent that removes the dependency on a desktop computer, using the wireless capability of the device. The two methods of ActiveSync can be used in combination or independently. Exchange ActiveSync is supported on Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 SE with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack installed, Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, and Windows Mobile 6. Supported Palm OS devices are Palm Treo 650P, 680, and 700P. Other software applications will allow some devices to use Exchange ActiveSync; check with the manufacture of your device for verification of Microsoft's Direct Push technology. Your device must be properly configured to connect to the Internet before using Exchange ActiveSync. Follow these steps to configure Exchange ActiveSync on a device running Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC 2003 SE (Second Edition): Note: These instructions were tested on a HTC TyTN II. These settings will affect the amount of wireless data transferred to your device.

You may also mark an attachment for download individually by tapping the attachment icon at the bottom of the email message. You will see a green arrow appear next to the attachment icon when it is marked for download. - If you plan to use a timed interval to retrieve your mail, tap the Mobile Schedule tab at the bottom of the screen.
- On this screen, you have two timeframes for which you can select how often your mobile device will synchronize with the Exchange server:
- Peak Time: Normal business working hours
- Off Peak Time: Weekends or other times you are not in the office
You may choose to manually retrieve or download items as often as every 15 minutes, or use another interval up to every four hours. Tap OK to return to the previous screen. - You are set up to retrieve your Exchange information via your device's Internet connection. To begin synchronizing, tap the green icon with two arrows inside it and the word sync next to it. This should start the synchronization process.
